Three Matadors Named to 2013 All-Big West Softball Team05.14.13Softball
Seniors Mikayla Thielges and Shelly Tait and freshman Maylynn Mitchell were named to the 2013 All-Big West Conference Softball Team per a vote of the conference's head coaches, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Thielges earned her second career All-Big West award, placing on the second team. Tait and Mitchell were recognized for the first time and received honorable mention awards.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (25-31, 11-13 Big West) lost 8-2 to Cal State Fullerton Saturday afternoon in the Matadors' final game of the 2013 season. Abby Linn and Tiffini Lucero each had RBI base hits for the Matadors, but a seven-run Titan fifth was too much to overcome.

After dropping a 4-0 decision, senior Mia Pagano carried a one-hit shutout into the bottom of the seventh in game two before CSUN ultimately prevailed 2-1.

Matadors Mash Four Home Runs in 12-3 Victory on Senior Day
The Cal State Northridge softball team (24-29, 10-11 Big West) defeated UC Riverside 12-3 in five innings Sunday in the series finale at Matador Diamond. Sophomore Adrienne Martinez hit two home runs, tying the school record, and drove in six RBIs, ony shy of the school mark, as the Matadors posted an impressive win on senior day.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (23-29, 9-11 Big West) defeated UC Riverside 5-1 and 8-5 Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference doubleheader at Matador Diamond. Seniors Shelly Tait and Mia Pagano picked up wins in the circle and big innings at the plate sent the Matadors to the two wins over the Highlanders.

In game one, Shelly Tait did not allow an earned run in a complete game and Tanna Bindi had a key two-run triple. In game two, the Matadors rallied from a 3-0 deficit to post a 5-4 extra-inning victory to clinch the series with the Tigers.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (18-26, 4-8 Big West) defeated Long Beach State 4-2 in eight innings and then fell 2-0 in the second game in a Big West Conference doubleheader at 49ers Sports Complex. In front of a nationally televised crowd on ESPNU, Tanna Bindi collected a two-run, two-out single in the top of the eighth to give the Matadors the win in game one.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (17-25, 3-7 Big West Conference) has a five-game week ahead of itself as the Matadors tangle with Long Beach State and Pacific. On Wednesday, April 17, Northridge will travel to Long Beach to face the 49ers in a doubleheader that will be broadcast live on ESPNU beginning at 1 p.m. Then on Saturday, April 20, the Matadors welcome Pacific to Matador Diamond for the two teams’ final Big West Conference series against each other. The Cal State Northridge softball team (15-23, 1-5 Big West Conference) has a busy week ahead as the Matadors travel for a single game against Long Beach State on Wednesday followed by a three-game series with Cal Poly at Matador Diamond over the weekend. The Matadors and 49ers will play a single game at 49ers Softball Complex at 3 p.m. this Wednesday followed by a doubleheader on April 17 in Long Beach that will air on ESPNU starting at 1 p.m. After the first game with the 49ers, the Matadors will host the Cal Poly Mustangs in a three-game series at Matador Diamond. The two teams will meet in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 with first pitch at noon. The following day, the teams will square off in a single game also at noon.

Maylynn Mitchell went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and Brianna Elder picked up her first win of the season in the circle as the Matadors snapped a six-game skid overall and seven-game streak against the Aggies.

CSUN sophomore Sydney House hit her first career home run and senior Shelly Taitrecorded a career-high nine strikeouts as the Matadors defeated the Wildcats. In the second game, CSUN jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind RBIs from Ariana Wassmer and Mikayla Thielges and Mia Pagano tossed a complete game in downing the Blue Demons.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (6-13) defeated New Mexico State 4-3 and lost 4-2 to UNLV Friday in its opening games at the UNLV Eller Media Stadium Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. Matador Softball to Host Kickoff Dinner
In anticiaption of the upcoming 2013 season, the Cal State Northridge softball program will host a Kickoff Dinner on Feb. 1 at Los Robles Greens in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The event will start at 6 p.m. with appetizers and be followed by dinner and an address from NFCA Hall of Famer and CSUN legend Coach Gary Torgeson.

Matador Softball Inks Eight to National Letters of Intent for 2014 Season
Cal State Northridge softball head coach Tairia Flowers has announced the signing of eight student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to begin play with the Matadors in the 2014 season. Rebecca Bell, Madison Fleming, Taylor Glover, Katie Hooper, Tara Kliebenstein, Taylor Nate Daphne Pofek and Carissa Sherman all bring extensive and successful amateur careers to Matador Diamond.

Cindy Ball Named Matador Softball Assistant Coach
Cindy Ball, a coaching veteran and former all-conference selection while a player at Pacific, has joined the Cal State Northridge softball program head coach Tairia Flowers announced. Ball most recently spent time as an assistant coach at the University of Washington and will work primarily with the Matadors’ pitchers while also helping with the outfielders and other administrative duties.

The third-year Matador softball head coach, Tairia Flowers, has been named the head coach of the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team that will compete for the International Softball Federation Junior Women’s World Championship in 2013, the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball announced.

CSUN Softball to Host Two Summer Camps in 2012
The Cal State Northridge softball program will hold two camps this summer at Matador Diamond. The CSUN coaching staff, led by former All-American and Olympic Gold Medalist Tairia Flowers, will hold an Advanced All Skills Camp on June 19-20 and then a Youth All Skills Camp from July 17-20.

2004 Softball Team Elected to U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame
As members of the 2004 United States Olympic Softball Team, Cal State Northridge softball head coach Tairia Flowers and volunteer assistant coach Natasha Watley have been elected to the United States Olympic Hall of Fame. Dubbed the "Real Dream Team" by Sports Illustrated, the team captured the Gold by outscoring its opponents 51-1 in nine games in Athens, Greece.

Mia Pagano Earns All-Big West Second Team Honors
In a vote of the conference coaches, Cal State Northridge junior pitcher Mia Pagano received 2012 All-Big West Second Team honors the league office announced Wednesday. The Matadors' top hurler throughout the season, Pagano finished a deceiving 8-19 overall, but posted a 2.25 ERA and a 3:1 strikeout-walk ratio in 71.2 innings of work in Big West play.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-42, 5-16 Big West) lost 4-1 to UC Santa Barbara in its season finale Saturday at Matador Diamond. Mikayla Thielges had an RBI single and Mia Pagano had six strikeouts, but the errors undid the Matadors' efforts on senior day.

Matadors Can't Solve Wisdom in Dropping Doubleheader
The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-41, 5-15 Big West) lost twice to UC Santa Barbara Friday afternoon in a Big West Conference doubleheader at Matador Diamond. UCSB freshman Shelby Wisdom tossed a no-hitter in game one (2-0) and then added a complete-game shutout and two-run home run in the second game (7-0) to keep the Gauchos' hopes for a Big West title alive.

In game one, the CSUN offense could not support a strong start from Mia Pagano and lost 1-0. In game two, the Matadors came back from four runs down to tie the contest, but UCR scored a two-out run in the fifth to sweep the doubleheader.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (10-35, 5-9 Big West) split a Big West Conferene doubleheader with Cal State Fullerton Saturday afternoon at Matador Diamond. In game one, CSUN slugged its way to a 5-2 victory behind four doubles, a home run and a solid pitching performance from Mia Pagano. In game two, Mikayla Thielges hit her seventh home run of the season to give CSUN an early lead, but the Titans responded with three home runs of their own to take a 7-2 victory.

Six different Matadors had a hit and Crystal Maas picked up her first career RBI, but Harvard scored four runs in the first two innings to get its second win of the weekend over CSUN.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (5-17) defeated Maine, 2-1, and lost to Harvard, 3-0, Friday in its first day at the Northridge Classic held at Matador Diamond. In the win over the Black Bears, Mia Pagano tossed a complete game and and allowed one unearned run to lead CSUN to a 2-1 victory. Against the Crimson, Rachel Brown fanned 13 Matadors and alowed only three hits as Harvard won 3-0.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (0-12) lost twice Thursday at the 2012 Cathedral City Classic In the first game, CSUN held an early lead and was tied 3-3 headed into the seventh before Boise State pushed two runs across on a home run to take a 5-3 victory. In the nightcap, the Matadors lost their fifth game of the young season to a ranked opponent, falling 4-0 to the eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns.

The Cal State Northridge softball team (0-10) remains on the road this weekend with a five-game slate at the prestigious Cathedral City Classic. The event, which is hosted by Oregon State, features teams from across the United States, including nationally ranked squads from Florida and Georgia. During their time in the California desert, the Matadors will take on teams Boise State, No. 8 Texas, Iowa, No. 1 California and future Big West Conference member San Diego State. Fun Had by All at Northridge-USSSA Pride Community Event
The Cal State Northridge softball program and the USSSA Pride, a team that competes in the National Pro Fastpitch league, participated in a community event at Matador Diamond Tuesday afternoon to promote the game of softball to the surrounding communities. A large crowd of fans of all ages watched the two teams compete in a variety of game simulations and were able to get autographs from both teams following the contest.

Northridge Opens 2012 Campaign with Five-Game Slate at ASU’s Kajikawa Classic
The Cal State Northridge softball team starts its 2012 season with five games in Tempe, Ariz., as part of the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State University. The Matadors will certainly get a tough test right out of the gates as they will play five teams that qualified for the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Among the five teams, CSUN will also face three teams that appeared in the preseason rankings (Stanford, Nebraska, Arizona) and one squad that received votes (Syracuse). Northridge to Host NPF's USSSA Pride in Feb. 21 Exhibition
The Cal State Northridge softball program will host an exhibition contest against the USSSA Pride of the National Pro Fastpitch league at Matador Diamond on Tuesday, Feb. 21, CSUN head coach Tairia Flowers announced. The Matadors will face some stiff competition against the Pride, who boast several Olympians and former national champions, including their own volunteer assistant coach, Natasha Watley.

Matador Softball to Host Winter Youth Clinic on January 16
The Cal State Northridge softball program will host a Winter Youth Clinic on January 16 at Matador Diamond from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In a fun and enjoyable atmosphere, participants will participate in numerous drills and game-like situations aimed at improving their skill level.

Northridge Softball Announces 2012 Schedule
The Cal State Northridge women's softball program has released its 2012 schedule, head coach Tairia Flowers announced. The Matadors will face a flurry of stiff competition in several preseason tournaments before taking on the challegenes of claiming the Big West Conference title.

The Cal State Northridge women's softball program will host a Winter Showcase Camp on December 10, 2011 at Matador Diamond. The event is limited to 40 participants and is open to any and all interested girls in grades 8-12.

Flowers Helps Lead Team USA to Softball Gold at 2011 Pan Am Games
Fresh off helping lead Team USA Softball to a gold medal at the Pan Am Games, CSUN softball head coach Tairia Flowers has come home to a house with no bats or balls. She knows she left them for her nearly two-year-old son Jayce to start honing his craft at the family trade, but now she can’t find them.

The Cal State Northridge softball program will hold its annual alumni game on Saturday, October 1 at Matador Diamond beginning at noon. All former Matadors are welcome for an afternoon game and post-contest celebration and meal.

Flowers Enjoys All-American Summer
It’s been just over a year since Tairia Flowers was named the softball head coach at Cal State Northridge. In those 12 months, the former All-American and Olympian has experienced a series of transitions, from the increase in responsibilities associated with being a first-year head coach to assuming a new coaching role with Team USA.
