NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge softball team (31-25, 8-12 Big West) lost 14-1 and 2-0 to Cal State Fullerton Saturday in a Big West Conference doubleheader at Matador Diamond. Katie Hooper blasted her third home run of the season and Taylor Glover tied a program record for steals, but the Matadors' offense could not keep pace with the Titans.
Game One Recap
CSUN trailed 4-1 through five innings, but Cal State Fullerton scored 10 runs in the final two innings to run away with the series opener.
Hooper blasted her third home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth to draw CSUN within 4-1. The RBI was her 35th of the season, placing her among the top in the Big West Conference. She also had two hits in the game.
Otherwise, the Matadors could not captalize on their opportunities. The Matadors loaded the bases with one out in the fourth, but a double play snuffed out the rally.
Game Two Recap
The Titans scored a pair of runs in the secoind inning without getting a base hit and Monique Wesley tossed a complete game shutout to complete the sweep.
CSUN starter Daphne Pofek (5-6) ran into trouble in the frame with walks and a wild pitch. She allowed five hits in seven innings and had two strikeouts in defeat.
At the plate, Glover singled in the first inning and took second to record her 19th stolen base of the year. That ties her with Jaci Carlsen (2011) for the program Division I record for a single season.
Madalyne Handy had two hits in the loss and Hooper had a single and a walk.
Saturday, the teams will meet in the final regular season game of the 2014 season. Both teams' seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony prior to a noon start. The Matadors will be saying goodbye to a three-member senior class: Leann Lopez, Tanna Bindi and Jennifer Tyler.
