NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge softball program has added former US Olympian Lovie Jung to its staff as the Volunteer Assistant Coach for the 2014 season. A member of the 2004 and 2008 US Olympic teams, Jung will work with Matador infielders and hitters in addition to administrative responsibilities.
A former All-American at Fresno State and Arizona, Jung was a top second baseman and shortstop during her NCAA career. She earned multiple all-region and all-conference awards and was a finalist for the 2003 Honda Softball Award.
"We are excited to add Lovie to our staff. She has had some outstanding success and experiences on the softball diamond that will translate in to being a great coach," CSUN softball head coach Tairia Flowers said.
This will be Jung's first foray into Division I coaching. She is an emergency medical technician in Riverside County. Jung is expecting her first child this fall, but will be back on the field for the start of training camp in January.
CSUN Softball would also like to congratulate former volunteer assistant coach Bianca Mejia on being named an assistant coach at Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
The Matadors, who will release their 2014 schedule shortly, open the year at the Kajikawa Classic from Feb. 7-9 in Tempe, Ariz.
