LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State defeated the Cal State Northridge women's soccer team, 5-0, Sunday afternoon at George Allen Field. With the loss, the Matadors fall to 7-8-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the Big West Conference while Long Beach State improves to 11-4-3 overall and 5-0-1 in league play.
The Matadors found themselves behind early as the 49ers' Hayley Bolt headed home a goal off a corner kick in the second minute of action. Long Beach State followed that up with another goal from Bolt, this time coming on an assist by Nicole Hubbard in the eighth minute.
Long Beach State added to their lead in the 34th minute when Lindsay Bullock headed home another corner kick, this one off the foot of Shawna Gordon. Bolt then completed the hat trick in the second half, heading home a goal off the foot of Dana Farquhar in the 47th minute.
LBSU made it 5-0 when Kristen Keifer beat sophomore Leah Elliott on the left side of the net following a pass from Cat Gray in the 62nd minute. In all, Elliott finished with seven saves in the contest, raising her season total to 104, the second-most in school history for a single season.
The Matadors close out the 2008 season with a pair of home matches next week. First up is a meeting with UC Riverside on Oct. 30 at 2:30 p.m., followed by a contest against Cal State Fullerton at 2 p.m. Senior Day festivities will commence before the match against the Titans.
