Matadors Fall 1-0 to Pacific in Big West Action

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (5-8, 1-2 BWC) lost 1-0 to Pacific Friday night in a Big West Conference match. Redshirt freshman Haley Hawes made a career-high six saves in the defeat for CSUN, who return to action Sunday against UC Davis at noon.

After a scoreless first half, Pacific broke the deadlock in the 58th minute when Laura Hogan connected on a cross from Laura Hernandez to give the Tigers the match's only goal. Pacific finished with 15 shots, eight of which were on target.

The Matadors pushed until the final whistle, as junior Desiree Cardenas hit the post on a header in the 89th minute. In all, CSUN finished with eight shots in the match, four of which came on target. Jill Medigovich made four saves for Pacific to earn the win.

Hawes started her second-straight in net match for the Matadors, recording three saves in each half. She now holds a 1.60 goals-against-average and a .765 save percentage in 225 minutes this season.

Redshirt freshman Marie Hirsch went into the referee's book in the 42nd minute with a yellow card, her first of the season. Senior Niki Connolly also went into the book, seeing a yellow card in the 54th minute.

Northridge earned three corners to the Tigers' five and both teams recorded team saves in the contest as well. The Matadors were whistled for offsides twice and were called for 12 fouls in the match.

The Matadors remain in Northern California for their next match, a meeting Sunday with UC Davis at noon. The Aggies defeated UC Irvine, 2-1, Friday afternoon for their first Big West victory of the season.
