ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Senior Krystina Gillenwater posted her second top-10 finish of the fall season and the Cal State Northridge women's golf team posted its second consecutive round of 311 to finish sixth at the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational at Cypress Ridge G.C.
The Matadors, who were tied for 10th after an opening-round 311, carded another 311 on Tuesday to pull into sixth at 622. The 622 is Northridge's low 36-hole score of the fall season as well as the Matadors also posted their third top-10 finish in four tournaments.
Gillenwater, who has posted eighth and 11th finishes in two previous tournaments, posted rounds of 76-75 to finish tied for 10th at 151 (+7). Senior Stephanie Aston, who was tied for 53rd after a first round 80, made a nice comeback on Tuesday with a final round 75. Aston finished tied for 25th at 155 (+11). The remaining members of the Matadors who all shot rounds in the 70's on Monday slipped into the 80's on Tuesday. Freshman Lady Samson wound up tied for 34th at 158 (+14) after rounds of 78-80, senior Katrina Sutton tied for 42nd at 159 (+15) after rounds of 78-81 and freshman Kendall Patton tied for 50th at 161 (+17) after rounds of 79-82.
San Jose State won the tournament with a 598 total for 36 holes, 12 strokes better than runner-up Sacramento State. UC Riverside edged Cal Poly by one stroke, 613-614, for third place. There were 18 schools in the two-day event, including two teams from UC Riverside.
Individual winner was Mary Beth McKenna of Xavier with rounds of 69 and 74 for a 143 total, three strokes ahead of Jennifer Bermingham of UC Riverside and Cristina Corpus of San Jose State.
