Oct. 11, 2010

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Cal State Northridge opened the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate with a team round of 311 and are tied for 12th after one round. Individually, Kylie Kimura is tied for 24th at (+3) 75 to lead the Matadors.

Northridge, which is averaging 305.9 strokes per round over the first seven rounds of the season, struggled to a season-high round of 311 on the par 72, 6,258-yard New Mexico State University Golf Course.

The Matadors, coming off their first win of the season at Cal Poly last week, are currently tied for 12th with Seattle and Hawai'i in the 14-team field. Baylor has the first round lead after carding a (+3) 285 while UC Irvine is second at (-2) 286. Host New Mexico State (289) is third, UTEP (295) is fourth and North Texas (296) rounds out the top-five after one round.

"The course is narrow and that killed us today," said Matador head coach Bonnie Murphy. "We were constantly in trouble all day long."

Junior Kylie Kimura posted scores of 39 on the front nine and 36 on the back nine to tie for 24th at (+3) 75 to lead Northridge. Kimura is coming off her first collegiate win last week at the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational.

Senior Ashlee Nagamine is tied for 41st at (+5) 77 after a 37 on the front nine and 40 on the back. Sophomore Margo Dionsio is tied for 60th at (+7) 79 after a 38 on the front and a 41 on the back and Marissa Medina and Ellen Krausse are both tied for 64th at (+8) 80. Medina went out in 38 and came home in 42 while Krausse posted a 43 on the front and a 37 on the back.

"The girls learned a lot about the course today," added Murphy. "I hope we'll make up some ground over the next two days and hopefully our hard work will pay off."

Baylor's Jaclyn Jansen opened with a seven under-par 65 and has a four-shot lead over New Mexico State's Suterra Chanachai and Michelle Park and Patty Chawalitmetha heading into Tuesday's second round.
