Matadors Open 2010-11 Season With Fifth-Place Finish at Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team fired a final round 306 to move into a tie for fifth-place finish at the Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational. Sophomore Margo Dionisio led the Matadors with a seventh-place finish.

Northridge, which was seventh after 36 holes on Monday, wound up with team rounds of 308-305-306 to finish in a tie with San Francisco at 919. Northern Arizona and BYU tied at 905 but NAU took the team title in a playoff. Gonzaga (910) was third and Nevada (912) was fourth in the 20-team field.

Dionisio, who was tied for 14th after rounds of 73-77 on Monday, fired a one over-par 73 on Tuesday to move into the top-10 at (+7) 223. Kylie Kimura, playing in her first tournament as a Matador after transferring from Long Beach State, posted a top-20 finish as she tied for 18th at (+12) 228. Kimura, who was 16th after two rounds which included a second round 72, posted a 77 on Tuesday to finish with rounds of 79-72-77.

Junior Ellen Krausse, also competing for Northridge for the first time, tied for 26th at (+14) 230 following rounds of 76-77-77. Fellow junior Jennel Alexander, the third Matador playing her first tournament, finished 73rd at (+24) 240 following rounds of 80-81-79. Junior Kendall Patten overcame a tough opening round 89 to finish with rounds of 79-79 to finish tied for 92nd at (+31) 247.

Lauren Hernandez of Nevada took home individual medalist honors with a three-round total of two over-par 218 to edge Gonzaga's Victoria Fallgren and Northern Arizona's Kaitlin Parsons by one shot.

Cal State Northridge is next in action Oct. 4-5 as the Matadors look to defend their 2009 team title at the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational at Monarch Dunes G.C. in Nipomo.
