April 20, 2010

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team carded its second straight team round of 321 and finished fifth at the 2010 Big West Championship at San Luis Obispo C.C. Freshman Margo Dionisio posted a final round 80 to finish tied for 11th to lead the Matadors.

Dionisio, a freshman from Whitter, Calif., was the Matadors' best golfer in the tournament. She carded rounds of 78 and 77 on Sunday and Monday, but slipped to a final round 80 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 11th at (+19) 235.

Junior Ashlee Nagamine, who was tied with Dionisio after an opening round 78, struggled over the final two rounds with scores of 81 and 80 to finish tied for 20th at (+23) 239. Freshman Clariss Guce also tied for 18th after she matched her opening round 80 with a final round 80 but in between carded a second round 79.

Maurissa Medina also had an identical score on Tuesday as she carded an 81 matching her first round 81 but struggled to an 84 on Monday. Medina wound up tied for 25th at (+30) 246.

Kendall Patten wound up the Northridge scoring as she finished 34th at (+41) 257 after posting rounds of 85-85-87.

The individual crown went to the Aggies' Chelsea Stelzmiller who won in a three-hole playoff against teammate Amy Simanton. Long Beach State's Simone Hoey finished third, while UC Irvine's Demi Runas was fourth. Wrapping up the top five scorers was day one leader Alice Kim of UC Davis.
