Second Round 321 Drops Northridge to Fifth at Big West Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's golf team carded a 321 in the second round of the Big West Championship and slipped one spot to fifth place heading into Tuesday's final round. Freshman Margo Dionisio is in striking distance of the leaders at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
The Matadors, who were tied for fourth after an opening round 317, slipped by four strokes on Monday and posted a 321 to share fifth-place with UC Riverside at 638. First round leader UC Davis remained in first place thanks to an eleven over-par 299.
The Aggies (597) lead Long Beach State (611) by 14 shots with UC Irvine (612) in third, Cal Poly (633) in fourth and Cal State Fullerton (663) sixth.
Dionisio, who began the day in 13th place, moved up two spots to 11th after a second round 77. At (+11) 155, Dionisio trails leader Chelsea Stelzmiller of UC Davis (147) by eight shots with 18 holes yet to play. Dionisio is just one shot out of finishing in the top-10 in her first conference championship.
Junior Ashlee Nagamine and freshman Clariss Guce are both tied for 18th at (+15) 159 after Guce fired a 79 on Monday while Nagamine slipped to an 81. Maurissa Medina struggled to a round of 84 on Monday after an opening round 81 on Sunday. Medina slipped from 23rd to 27th in the individual standings. Kendall Patten completed the Matador scoring after posting her second straight round of 85 left her alone in 32nd-place at (+26) 170.
The 54-hole tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday. The first tee time will be at 8 a.m. with the leaders all teeing off between 9-9:10 a.m.
