DOVE CANYON, Calif. - Cal State Northridge carded a final round 332 and slipped to 13th place at the conclusion of the Anteater Invitational at Dove Canyon C.C. Lady Samson and Katrina Sutton tied for 57th to lead the Matadors.
Northridge had its roughest tournament in four Spring outings as the Matadors posted rounds of 338-329-332 to finish 13th with a team score of 999. For the first time this season, no Northridge golfer was able to post a round in the 70's. Long Beach State (891) shot a tournament low 289 on the final round to capture the team title while UC Davis (903) was second and San Francisco (904) was third among the 14-team field.
"Two of our top scorers weren't able to play, so that hurt us," said head coach Bonnie Murphy. "It was a tough course and we certainly had a tough time keeping the ball in play. We'll just put this tournament behind us and try to get ready for confernce in two weeks."
Freshman Lady Samson and senior Katrina Sutton led the Matadors as both finished tied for 57th at (+37) 250. Samson finished with rounds of 83-85-82 while Sutton posted rounds of 83-85-82. Ashlee Nagamine finished tied for 60th at (+38) 251 after rounds of 85-81-85, Kendall Patton tied for 66th at (+40) 253 after rounds of 87-83-83 and Maurissa Medina finished tied for 70th at (+50) 263 after rounds of 90-80-93.
UC Davis' Chelsea Stelzmiller shot a one under-par 71 Wednesday to earn medalist honors Long Beach State's Kay Hoey (73-74-69) and Lee Lopez (74-70-72) tied for third with a score of 216.
