Margo Dionisio Captures Lady Cougar Invitational, Matadors Take Second

SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Matador senior Margo Dionisio won the first tournament of her career capturing the Lady Cougar Invitational Tuesday at Twin Oaks G.C. As a team, CSUN finished second, the best finish for the Matadors this season.

Dionisio, who has eight career top-10 finishes, had never finished higher than third. On Tuesday, the senior from Whittier, Callif., carded a final round even-par 72 to pull even with Cal State San Marcos' Alyssa Waite. Dionisio then won Individual Medalist honors via a card-off. The individual tournament win was the first by a CSUN player since Kylie Kimura won the Firestone Grill Invitational in Oct., 2010.

Dionisio was one of the Matadors in the top-six as Northridge finished second in the team chase to the host Lady Cougars of San Marcos. The Matadors followed up Monday's season-best team score of 307 with a 301 on Tuesday, establishing another season-low round. The two-round 608 is 18 strokes better than CSUN's previous best for 36 holes in 2012-13. San Marcos wound up with the team championship after posting rounds of 301-297 for a two-round 598.

In addition to Dionisio, Clariss Guce moved into a tie for third with a final round of one over-par 73. Guce now has a second place, two thirds and a sixth place finish to her credit in six tournaments this season. The junior from Artesia, Calif., finished with rounds of 76-73 for a two-round score of five over 149.

Elisabeth Haavardsholm had the best finish of her very young Matador career as she finished sixth at seven over 151. Haavardsholm, who began the day in third after an opening round 74, closed with a five over 77 to finish in the top-10 for the first time in two spring tournaments.

Stephanie Bush also posted her best finish of the season as the freshman finished tied for 17th at (+16) 160. Bush, who opened with a round of 81 on Monday, matched her season-low round with a seven over 79 on Tuesday. Sophomore Sharon Shin narrowly missed her first top-20 finish of the season as she finished in a tie for 21st at (+20) 164. Shin's scores of 83-81 is one shot off her season-best for 36 holes.
