Sharon Shin Earns The San Gennaro Foundation Frank Potenza Scholarship

Sharon Shin of the Cal State Northridge women's golf team earned The San Gennaro Foundation Frank Potenza Scholarship which was awarded by The San Gennaro Foundation as part of the 10th Annual Feast San Gennaro Los Angeles on Sept. 22, 2011.

Shin, a freshman from Beaverton, Ore., was one of eight college students to receive a scholarship from The San Gennaro Foundation. Shin's scholarship is named after the late Frank Potenza, who was also known as "Uncle Frank" on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show. Ironically, she is a big fan of the show. Kimmel himself is the Chairman of The San Gennaro Foundation.

Shin's winning essay, deemed "the best essay by far" by CSUN Professor of Georgraphy Dr. Ed Jackiewicz, connected the cultures of South Korea and Italy by showing how both cultures value the importance of the mother in the family, and naturally food! Shin also volunteers her time working with senior citizens, helping at food banks and donating blood.
