Northridge Women's Basketball Hosts The Master's College in Tuesday Night Twinbill
The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team hosts the Master's College Tuesday night at The Matadome in its second exhibition contest of the season at 6 p.m. The Matadors lost their first exhibition game, getting tripped up by Cal Poly Pomona, 76-72, in overtime on Nov. 2.

In her first appearance in a Matador uniform, junior Whitney Ligon scored a team-high 15 points in the loss to the Broncos. Ligon, a transfer from Santa Ana CC, added four rebounds and two assists in the game. Fellow transfer Tonicia Tademy, a 5-5 junior from Mt. San Antonio College, scored 12 points and dished out a team-high five assists.

A pair of upperclassmen rounded out the Matadors' top scorers against the Broncos. Senior Katie Holloway posted a double-double in the loss, recording 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Ashley Blake finished with 10 points and four rebounds.

The Matadors jumped out to a 17 point lead with 4:09 remaining in the first half, but scored only 15 points in the second half, including 1-of-12 from beyond the three-point line. Northridge also had problems at the free throw line, connecting on 59.6 percent (28-of-47) of its opportunities.

The game was a back-and-forth affair that featured eight ties and 13 lead changes. Northridge forced 35 Bronco turnovers, which it converted into 25 points. Pomona also created opportunities on defense, scoring 32 points off 30 Northridge turnovers.

The Master's College won their first contest of the season, defeating Dominican, 106-67, on Nov. 2. Jenna Reed led the Mustangs with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and also pulled down six rebounds in the contest. Jen Ayers-Stamper added 14 points in the victory and four rebounds in the contest.

The game against the Mustangs is part of a basketball doubleheader Tuesday night at The Matadome. Following the women's game against The Master's College, the men's squads from both schools will play an exhibition contest. Tip off for the men's game is slated fo 8 p.m., though may run later due to outcome of the women's game.

Northridge opens its 2007-08 season with a pair of road contests this weekend. On Friday, the Matadors travel to Malibu to face the Pepperdine Waves and on Sunday, Northridge heads to San Diego to square off against the San Diego Torreros.
