Ofa Tulikihihifo, CSUN's all-time leading basketball scorer, signs professional contract to play in Germany
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Ofa Tulikihihifo, one of the all-time great basketball players in the history of Cal State Northridge women's basketball, has signed a professional contract to play in Germany.
Tulikihihifo will play for BG 74 Gottingen, a team that plays in the highest division of pro basketball in Germany. Tulikihihifo, who will be making her first trip to Europe, will leave on Sunday, Sept. 15.
"This is an exciting opportunity," said Tulikihihifo, who is one of only three players in Big West history to earn all-league honors four times. "The league is strong, and I promise to work even harder to take advantage of this great opportunity."
Tulikihihifo nearly rewrote the entire Matadors record book during her four seasons at Cal State Northridge, and certainly ranks as one of the all-time great players in Big West history. Her name appears in the Matadors' Top 10 in eleven categories including all-time leading scorer (1,632 points), field goals made (655) and field goal attempts (1,404). Tulikihihifo also is #2 all-time in career rebounds with 838.
From the day she arrived as a freshman in 2002-03, Tulikihihifo earned a starting role. In four seasons at Cal State Northridge, Tulikihihifo started 94 of 101 games.
Replacing the graduated Tulikihihifo will be a difficult task for the Matadors in 2007-08, but head coach Staci Schulz is proud of Ofa's hard work, and predicts success in professional basketball.
"I am excited that Ofa is going to represent Northridge women's basketball, and I feel very proud that I was able to be a part of her outstanding career here at Cal State Northridge," said Schulz.
