NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team will play a total of 17 home games at The Matadome, including the Warner Center Marriott Classic, during the 2009-10 season, CSUN Head Coach Staci Schulz announced. In addition to their Big West Conference slate, the Matadors will take trips to face Gonzaga and Arizona in the non-conference season.
Four of the Matadors' opponents in the upcoming season participated in postseason tournaments following the 2008-09 season (Gonzaga, UC Santa Barbara, Prairie View A&M and UC Riverside). The schedule also features road trips to face San Diego and San Jose State and non-conference home games against Miami (OH) and New Mexico State.
Before the start of the season, the Matadors will play a pair of exhibition contests at The Matadome. On Nov. 2, the 2009-10 squad makes its debut with an exhibition against Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m. Later that week, CSUN hosts Westmont College for an exhibition contest on Nov. 7 at 4 p.m.
The Matadors officially open the season with a pair of games at home. On Nov. 13, the season tips off with a meeting against New Mexico State at 2 p.m. Two days later, Northridge hosts Prairie View A&M at The Matadome also starting at 2 p.m.
The following week takes Northridge on the road for a pair of games. On Nov. 24, the Matadors face San Jose State at 7 p.m., and then travel to San Diego to face the USD Toreros on Nov. 24 for a 7 p.m. game.
Around the Thanksgiving Holiday, the Matadors host Pepperdine, Providence and Northern Colorado in the Warner Center Marriott Classic. There will be two games on Nov. 27 and a single game on Nov. 28.
The first day's action will pit the Waves and Friars against each other starting at 5 p.m., followed by the Matadors and Bears at 7 p.m. The following day will feature a contest pitting Northern Colorado against Providence starting at 7 p.m. All three games will be played at The Matadome.
The Matadors make their first trip outside of California the following weekend, heading to the state of Washington for a pair of games. On Dec. 4, the Matadors face Big Sky member Eastern Washington at 7 p.m. Two days later, Northridge meets Gonzaga, the defending West Coast Conference champion, for a 2 p.m. contest.
To close out the 2009 calendar year, the Matadors will host a pair of games. On Dec. 20, the Matadors host Miami (OH) for a 4 p.m. game, and then welcome the University of South Dakota for a 7 p.m. game on Dec. 29.
The New Year brings a return to Big West Conference action for the Matadors. Northridge welcomes Pacific and UC Davis to the San Fernando Valley in the opening weekend of league play. The Tigers come to town on Jan. 2 for a 4 p.m. game and the Aggies and Matadors meet in The Matadome on Jan. 4 in a 7 p.m. contest.
Northridge plays its first league road game of the year on Jan. 7 with a contest at UC Irvine at 7 p.m. Northridge returns home for its next game, a Jan. 11 game against Cal State Bakersfield at 6 p.m.
The road-home split continues for CSUN, as it heads to Riverside for a Jan. 14 game against UC Riverside at 7 p.m. Two days later, the Matadors host Cal State Fullerton for a 4 p.m. game at The Matadome.
The Matadors have a week off following the tilt against the Titans, returning to the hardwood on Jan. 23 with a home game against Cal Poly at 4 p.m. Following the Mustangs, the Matadors hit the road for two games, traveling to Long Beach State on Jan. 28 for a 7 p.m. game and then head to Santa Barbara to face the Gauchos on Jan. 30 at 2 p.m.
Northridge opens a three-game homestand following the UCSB game, beginning with a Feb. 4 meeting against UC Riverside at 7 p.m. The Matadors then face the 49ers for the second time in eight days as LBSU travels to the Matadome on Feb. 6 for a 4 p.m. game. CSUN then takes a break from their league schedule to host Seattle University on Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
For its next three games, CSUN will head out on the road, beginning with a Feb. 13 contest at Cal State Fullerton starting at 5 p.m.. On Feb. 16, Northridge plays its final non-conference game of the season, heading to Tucson, Ariz., to face the University of Arizona at 7 p.m.. The roadtrip concludes on Feb. 20 with a game at Cal Poly slated for a 4 p.m. start.
The Matadors close out the home portion of their schedule with a Feb. 24 game against UC Santa Barbara (7 p.m.) and a Feb. 27 game against UC Irvine (4 p.m.). The final weekend of the regular season sends Northridge to Northern California to face UC Davis on Mar. 4 (7 p.m.) and Pacific on Mar. 6 (4 p.m.).
The Big West Conference Tournament, which will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center, begins on Mar. 10, 2009. As the eighth seed in the 2009 tournament, the Matadors upended fifth-seeded UC Davis to begin the event and narrowly fell to third-seeded Cal Poly the following day.
