NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
Cal State Northridge women's basketball senior Katie Holloway was named the Big West Player of the Week, the Big West Conference announced Monday. In Northridge's two games last week, including a 73-72 victory over Cal State Bakersfield, Holloway averaged 24.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 77.8 percent from the field (21-of-27).
"I am honored to receive this recognition," Holloway said. "I think the award is a testament to the team and how hard we have been working throughout the entire year. Throughout the season, the perimeter players have done a great job of getting me the ball inside, allowing me to take high-percentage shots."
In the Matadors' win over Bakersfield, their first of the season, Holloway made a career-high 12 field goals on 16 attempts, including the game-winning basket with 2.2 seconds left. She also pulled down 10 rebounds, good for the sixth double-double of her career.
On Saturday, Holloway led CSUN with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field (81.8 percent) and grabbed three rebounds in the 49-48 loss to Long Beach State.
For the season, Holloway is putting up career highs in minutes (28.3), points (13.0) and rebounds (7.0) per game while shooting 55.1 percent from the field. In league play, her numbers increase to 14.2 ppg and a blistering 61 field goal percentage from the field, which is the tops in the Big West Conference.
Holloway will play in the final two home games of her career this week when Northridge hosts Cal St. Fullerton on Thursday and UC Irvine in the home finale on Saturday. Both games are slated to start at 7 p.m. and the game against the Anteaters will feature a senior ceremony in honor of Holloway, the team's lone senior.
