Long Beach State Slides Past Matadors, 49-48 Box Score NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (1-22, 0-12 BWC) lost to Long Beach State, 49-48, in a Big West Conference game Saturday afternoon. Senior Katie Holloway scored a team-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting, raising her season field goal percentage to 55.1 percent. Following Thursday's 12-of-16 showing in the Northridge's victory over Cal St. Bakersfield, Holloway finished the weekend shooting 21-of-27 from the field, a 77.8 percent clip. She also had three rebounds and block against the 49ers. Sophomore Katrina Thompson added 9 points and three rebounds and assists for CSUN and is now averaging 10.3 ppg over her last three contests and scored a season-high 14 points at Cal St. Bakersfield. Northridge trailed 16-15 at halftime. The two teams combined to shoot 25.5 percent (13-of-51). The Matadors staged a rally midway through the second half after falling behind by eight, 26-18, with 15:49 left to play. Holloway hit a lay-up with 11:23 to play to put CSUN ahead, 33-31, capping a 15-6 run. The Matadors led by eight with five minutes to play, 41-33, following a pair of free throws from Holloway, but couldn't stop Long Beach State, who outscored Northridge 16-7 over the rest of the game. Northridge hosts its final pair of home game this season next week, welcoming Cal St. Fullerton and UC Irvine for 7 p.m. starts on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1, respectively. The game against the Anteaters will feature senior day festivities in honor of senior Katie Holloway. |
