Roadrunners Drop Matadors, 74-59, in Saturday Matinee Action

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team lost, 74-59, to Cal State Bakersfield Saturday afternoon at The Matadome. Senior Whitney Ligon and freshman Jasmine Erving each scored 11 points in the defeat while sophomore Analee Viena-Lota and freshman Bridgette Conejo each had 10 rebounds for the Matadors.

Making her first start of the season, Erving finished 5-of-11 from the field and added two rebounds and blocked shot in 18 minutes of action. The five field goals, 11 points and 18 minutes of action all represent new season highs for the rookie.

Ligon's 11 points represent a season high and she hit 4-of-6 free throws, also a season high. She added six rebounds in the game to set a new career high and also had two assists.

Erving is now averaging 7.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest while Ligon jumps to 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Viena-Lota and Conejo's 10 rebounds each helped CSUN out-rebound Bakersfield, 48-39, for the game. Viena-Lota added eight points while Conejo chipped in three points. Junior Katrina Thompson added seven rebounds, a new season high, for Northridge.

For the season, Viena-Lota leads the team with 11.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Conejo checks in at 5.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. Thompson is averaging 4.3 rebounds per game this season.

CSUN finished the game shooting 32.8 percent from the field (22-of-67) and 59.1 percent from the free throw line (13-of-22). Bakersfield forced 22 CSUN turnovers that it converted into 21 points. Christine Kepenikian and Krista Arase led the Roadrunners with 16 points each.

Northridge travels to Anchorage next week to participate in the Great Alaska Shootout. On Nov. 25, the Matadors face host Alaska-Anchorage at 6 p.m. (AKT). The next day, Northridge will face either Syracuse or Jackson State depending on the outcome of their game. Both contests will be broadcast by Dave Caldwell on gomatadors.com.
