HOUSTON, Texas - The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team lost, 76-55, Friday night to Rice at Tudor Fieldhouse. Senior Tonicia Tademy led the Matdors with 15 points in the defeat and also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Tademy finished with a career-high seven field goals against the Owls, finishing 7-of-13 from the field. Her eight rebounds were divided evenly between offensive and defensive boards and she added four assists in the contest.
Junior Kayla Rutherford and sophomore Analee Viena-Lota each chipped in eight points for the Matadors. Viena-Lota added six rebounds, two steals and two assists to her line while Rutherford had four rebounds and a steal in her CSUN debut.
The Matadors trailed 36-21 at halftime after shooting 38.1 percent from the field (8-of-21). They finished the game at 39.3 percent from the field (22-of-56). Northridge forced 18 Rice turnovers in the contest and both teams had 10 steals.
In addition to Rutherford, freshman Bridgette Conejo made an impressive debut for CSUN. She finished with six points and three rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench. Senior Ashley Blaked chipped in with eight points and four assists in 24 minutes of action.
Rice had three players finish in double figures, led by Morgan Mayse's 16 points.
The Matadors return to action Sunday when they face Prairie View A&M of the SWAC. Tip off between the Lady Panthers and Northridge is slated for 2 p.m. (CST).
