UC Riverside Downs Northridge, 72-62

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (3-13, 0-3 BWC) lost 72-62 Wednesday night to UC Riverside (8-9, 4-1 BWC) at The Matadome. Senior Tonicia Tademy set a new career high with 24 points while fellow senior Whitney Ligon added 19 for Northridge in the defeat.
Tademy finished 10-of-21 from the field in the game, also setting a new career high with the 10 field goals. She added four assists and four rebounds to her final line and is now averaging 7.9 points, 5.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game for the season.
En route to her 19 points, Ligon knocked down a season-high four 3-pointers, moving her into 10th place in school history with 63 career treys. She added two steals and two offensive rebounds in the game and continues to lead the team with an average of 11.2 points-per-game.
In Northridge's three Big West Conference games thus far, Ligon is averaging 15.7 points and Tademy is second on the squad scoring 13.7 points-per-game.
UC Riverside held a 41-28 halftime lead and were up by as many as 18 in the contest, due in large part to Kemie Nkele's 32 points and 12 rebounds. The Highlander forward had 22 at halftime and added three blocks, two steals and four 3-pointers for UCR.
Still, Northridge battled back throughout the second half, out-scoring Riverside, 34-31, in the stanza. Freshman Jasmine Erving led the Matadors with nine rebounds and also had six points. The Matadors shot 33.9 percent from the field for the game (21-of-62), but 5-of-7 (.714) from 3-point range. Northridge also committed a season-low 10 turnovers in the contest.
Next up for CSUN is a meeting with Long Beach State, who also enters the contest at 3-13 overall. The 49ers and Matadors will meet Saturday at 4 p.m. in The Matadome.
