NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team has added Bernadette Fong to the 2012-13 roster, head coach Jason Flowers announced. A 6-3 center from Liberty High School in Northern California, Fong brings an interior presence to the Matadors' incoming class.
"Bernadette is a great young woman who will add a depth to our front court," Flowers said. "She brings a level of physicality and skill that will add a different dimension to our post game."
Originally from Brentwood, Calif., Fong played four seasons of varsity basketball for the Lions and head coach Debbi Weil. She earned Team MVP and All-Bay Valley Athletic First Team honors following junior and senior seasons. Fong played her club basketball for the Cal Ballaz and head coach Leroy Hurt.
Fong's addition makes it four incoming freshmen for CSUN's upcoming 2012-13. She joins Breeyon Alexander, Johnece Miller and Jasmine Johnson, who signed in November of 2011. The Matadors are expected to add one more freshman to the group.
CSUN opens the 2012-13 season with a home game against the University of Portland on Nov. 9. The game will tip off at 5 p.m. and is part of a Northridge Basketball doubleheader. The Northridge men's basketball team will play Eastern Washington following the Matadors and Pilots. Separate tickets are needed for each contest.
In addition the newcomers, the Matadors return eight letterwinners and four starters from a 2011-12 team that finished 17-14 overall and 11-5 in the Big West Conference.
