NORTHRIDGE, Calif. ---
The Cal State Northridge women's basketball program has added Marta Masoni (Taranto, Italy) to the 2012-13 roster, Matador head coach Jason Flowers announced. A 6-1 perimeter player from Taranto, Italy, Masoni brings a lifetime of experience to the hardwood and gives the Matadors another solid two-way player.
The daughter of a former Italian Women's Basketball National Team player, Masoni has been around the game since a young age. She made her debut with the Italian National Team in 2004 as a member of the U-15 squad and captured Gold at the U-18 European Championships in 2010.
"We're excited to add a player with the versatility and experience Marta has," Flowers said. "Marta gives us another wing player with good size and the ability to knock down outside shots. She is excited to join our program and help us continue to improve. She will not only help us on the court, but adds another character young woman to an already quality group"
Masoni joins four other Matadors newcomers to the 2012-13 squad: Breeyon Alexander, Bernadette Fong, Jasmine Johnson and Johnece Miller. CSUN returns eight letterwinners and four starters from a 2011-12 team that went 17-14 overall and 11-5 in the Big West Conference.
The Matadors open their 2012-13 season with a home game against Portland on Friday, Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. The game is part of a Northridge Basketball doubleheader, with the men's team playing Eastern Washington following the conclusion of the Matadors and Pilots.
