SPRINGFIELD. Ore. - Senior Lilyana Morejon led the Cal State Northridge women's cross country team with a 61st place finish at the NCAA West Region Championships held at the Springfield Country Club. Juan Olea's 113th place finish was tops for the Matador men.
Morejon, who ran 22:10.20 on the same course last year, posted a time of 21:23.56 despite falling to the turf during the race. Zitlalic Ley finshed 150th in a time of 22:29.10 and Araceli Zainos was 196th in a time of 23:25.76. Both Ley and Zainos were making their NCAA Regional debut in the 221-runner field.
On the men's side, Olea ran 31:59.70 which was over two seconds better than his time on the same course at last season's NCAA Regional. Gustavo Hernandez and Hunter Hays also ran for the Matador men, with Hernandez finishing 160th in a time of 33:35.00 and Hays finishing 164th in 33:59.19. 178 runners competed in the men's 8k.
