RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge men's and women's cross country faced tough competition Saturday as the women were 16th and the men 24th at the UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational.
On the same course that has hosted several Big West Championship meets, the CSUN women were paced by Alexis Pichardo who finished 60th in a time of 22:52.7. Megan Magdaleno was 88th in 23:47.3, Nicole Rietveld was 104th in 24:35.1, Annie Weiss was 106th in 25:06.0, Victoria Olaiz was 108th in 25:18.3 and Kristen Tapia was 109th in 25:36.5.
The Matador women posted a total of 421 points and an average time of 24:19.88.
In the men's 8k race, freshman Jackson Higgins had CSUN's top time after finishing 135th in 27:01.5. Julio Moran placed 149th in 27:20.9 followed by Kamal Chahal who was 158th in 27:34.8, Luis Chvez was 162nd in 27:42.8, Marcelo Rosales was 164th in 27:45.2, Martin Santillan was 167th in 27:55.9, Zach Steigler was 178th in 28:34.7, Dylan Haerle was 179th in 28:39.7 and Alfredo Robles was 191st in 29:52.1.
The Matador men amassed 668 total points and ran an average time of 27:29.04.
