NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge will host its first cross country meet on the CSUN campus in more than 20 years Saturday, Oct. 15 when the Matadors host the 2011 Northridge Invitational.
The women's 6k race is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. followed by the men's 8k at 8:45 a.m.
The course, designed by Matador head coach Avery Anderson, loops around the several grass recreation fields on the CSUN campus and will also travel to the grass perimeter of the Matador Track & Field Complex as well as the asphalt service road that connects those areas.
Competitors and fans are encouraged to park in Lot E6 which is located off Halsted St. Athlete drop off is in the loading zone as soon as you turn left onto Plummer from Lindley Ave.
215 men and women are scheduled to compete with 139 competing in the women's 6k and 75 men in the 8k. In the women's race, teams from Houston, USC, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, Cal State Fullerton, UNLV and CSU Bakersfield as well as others are expected to compete. Men's teams from Houston, Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara as well as the Men of Troy are scheduled to run the 8k.
Cal State Northridge last hosted a cross country meet on the University campus in the late 1980's. The Matadors hosted a meet in both 2009 and 2010 and Balboa Park in Tarzana. Results from Satuday's meet will be posted on the official website of Cal State Northridge Athletics, www.GoMatadors.com.
