Freshman Greg Faulkner was the lone Cal State Northridge player selected to the 2011 All-MPSF Team as the first-year middle blocker was named to the seven-player All-Freshman Team.

Faulkner, a 6-7 middle from Westchester High School in Los Angeles, finished second on the Matadors with a .363 hitting percentage and was fifth on the squad with 145 kills. He committed just 42 hitting errors in 284 swings and led CSUN in blocking with 69 total stuffs, including a team-high 13 solo blocks.

"As a true freshman Greg did a great job for us this year," said head coach Jeff Campbell. "He is a very athletic player who really affected the other teams."

Faulkner's best match of the season came in Northridge's 3-1 win at UC San Diego on Feb. 19 when he pounded a season-high 11 kills while hitting .353 to go with six blocks (two solo). He also had a Matador season-high three solo blocks while putting down 10 kills (.467) at UCLA on Jan. 19.

"Greg is a very dynamic player who had a nice first season and we're looking forward to bigger things from him next year," added Campbell.

Faulkner becomes just the second Northridge player named to the MPSF All-Freshman Team since the seven-player team originated in 2009. Matt Stork earned first-year accolades as a freshman in 2009.

Senior opposite Murphy Troy of top-ranked USC was named the MPSF Player of the Year. In addition, the Trojans' Bill Ferguson was named the Coach of the Year. Outside hitter Taylor Sander of BYU picked up Freshman of the Year honors.
