Matt Shubin begins his first season as Jeff Campbell's top assistant at Cal State Northridge in 2009. Shubin brings a wealth of volleyball coaching experience with him to Northridge. He began his career as a volleyball camp clinician at UCLA, Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine in 1999. That led to a position of lead volleyball instructor at the Sinjin Smith/Randy Stoklos Beach Camp which he held from 2001 through 2006. Shubin also has several years of experience coaching at the high school level. He was the head varsity girls and boys coach at Palisades High School from 2004-2006 and is currently in his second season as the head coach of the girls varsity squad at Chaminade College Prep. In 2007, Shubin founded the Achieve Volleyball Club based in West Hills, Calif and currently serves as the Club's Director. He also coached the SCVA High Performance Boys team at the 2007 European Global Challenge in Maribor, Slovenia. Shubin also served as a USA Volleyball Girls High Performance Tryout Coach in 2008. In the summer of 2008, he was named head coach of the Southern California Volleyball Association Select National Team, a collection of the region's top girl's players. Under his direction the Southern California Girls went undefeated to win the Gold Medal at the USA High Performance Championships in Tucson, Ariz. A 2003 graduate of UCLA, Shubin has experience playing at the highest levels. In 2000 he led Pierce College to a 19-0 record and a state championship. At UCLA, he played under the tutelage of legendary head coach Al Scates. After graduating from UCLA, Shubin continued his indoor playing career as a professionally in Greece and Puerto Rico.
