John Baker appeared in 27 matches playing in 73 sets as a redshirt freshman ... came on midway through the season to claim the starting opposite/right side hitter position ... appeared in nine of the first 16 matches of the season off the bench .... finished sixth on the team in kills with 196 and was fifth in kills per game at 2.68 ... ranked sixth in points with 231.5 ... added 14 aces (0.19 sapg), 95 digs (1.30 dpg) and 39 blocks (0.53 bpg) ... knocked down a career-high 19 kills at top-ranked Pepperdine (Feb. 26), the eighth-best single-match total by a Matador hitter in 2010 ... also took a season-high 45 swings against the Waves ... earned his first collegiate start and notched his first double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs at No. 6 USC (Feb. 24) ... recorded double figures in kills in 10 of the final 18 matches of the season ... had 15 kills while hitting .250 in the MPSF Tourament semifinal win over BYU (Apr. 29) ... hit a career-high .667 with 17 kills in 24 swings with one error against Pacific (Apr. 3) ... added five kills in 15 swings against Penn State in the NCAA Tournament (May 6).
Baker redshirted as a true freshman for the Matadors in 2009.
