It's back to MPSF play for Cal State Northridge (7-12, 6-10 MPSF) this week as the Matadors continue their season-long, six-match road trip at seventh-ranked USC (12-8, 11-8 MPSF) Friday and fourth-ranked Pepperdine (12-5, 12-5 MPSF) Saturday. CSUN, still looking for that springboard win, may have gotten it with a five-set upset victory over No. 15 Ohio State on Saturday. The win over the Buckeyes salvaged a split in the two non-conference matches at Long Beach State's Active Ankle Classic last week as the Matadors opened with a three-set loss to No. 14 Penn State.

USC, 7-4 at home this season, split road matches at No. 4 UC Santa Barbara (L, 2-3) and No. 7 UCLA (W, 3-1) last week and are 6-3 over its last nine matches. Lucas Yoder leads the Trojans averaging 4.05 which is tied for fourth in the MPSF. Tanner Jansen adds 3.57 kps but has played in just 44 of USC's 75 sets this season. The Trojans are hitting .284 as a team through 20 matches. Friday's match is the 72nd meeting all-time between the Matadors and Trojans with USC holding a 42-29 edge in the series. The Matadors upset the No. 4 Trojans 25-19, 25-21, 25-21 on Jan. 24 in The Matadome.
• Fourth-ranked Pepperdine (12-5, 12-5 MPSF) opens its week Thursday hosting No. 2 Long Beach State before entertaining the Matadors on Saturday. The Waves claimed a pair of big road wins last week, winning at No. 7 UCLA (3-1) and at No. 4 UC Santa Barbara (3-2). MPSF Player of the Week Matt Tarantino hit .719 with 23 kills and no errors in the two matches. Josh Taylor leads the Waves averaging 4.14 kills per set while Pepperdine is hitting .305 as a team which ranks fourth in the MPSF. Saturday's match is the 75th meeting all-time between CSUN and Pepperdine with the Waves holding a 54-20 edge in the series. The Waves held off the Matadors in five in the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 22 at CSUN.
HOLT CONTINUES HIS TORRID PACE
After a slight hiccup against Penn State on Friday, sophomore Sam Holt picked up where he left off last week with 27 kills on 57 swings in CSUN's 3-2 upset win over Ohio State. In earning Active Ankle Classic all-tournament honors, Holt averaged 4.38 kills per set in the two matches while hitting .325 on 70 swings. Over his last four matches, Holt is hitting .371 on 175 swings while putting down 89 kills which averages out to 5.93 kills per set. The sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio has moved into the top-10 in the MPSF in kills per set as he is now ninth at 3.66 kills per set.
CAMPBELL PICKS UP 250TH CAREER WIN
Having become Cal State Northridge men's volleyball's all-time winningest coach during the 2010 season, Jeff Campbell picked up his most recent milestone win of his remarkable 17-year Matador career in Northridge's 3-2 win over 15th-ranked Ohio State on Saturday. The victory gave the Matador boss his 250th career victory. Campbell, who now has a career record of 250-234 (.517), reached the 150, 200 and 225 career milestones over the last six seasons. Currently, the second-longest tenured head coach at Cal State Northridge (men's golf coach Jim Bracken is in his 28th season) Campbell has posted double figure win totals in 14 of his previous 16 seasons on the bench and notched a career-best 24 wins in 2009.
SEASON AND CAREER-HIGHS VS. OHIO STATE
In CSUN's 3-2 win over No. 15 Ohio State, several Matadors set new season and career-highs. Setter Travis Magorien eclipsed his two-year old career-high of 50 assists with 53 against the Buckeyes. With three hitters in double figures, CSUN posted a season-high 64 kills, with a career-high 12 coming from Greg Faulkner and a career-high 11 from Kyle Stevenson in addition to Holt's 27. The Matadors also came within two aces of their season-high of 10 as Holt notched a career-high three while Colby Magorien had a career-high two with Jakub Ciesla matching his career-high with a pair.
Saturday's 3-2 win over No .15 Ohio State was the Matadors' first over a ranked team since Jan. 24 when CSUN knocked off No. 4 USC in straight sets. Since then, Northridge had dropped nine straight matches against teams ranked in the AVCA Top-15 ... Redshirt freshman Bradley Sakaida also had a solid weekend in Long Beach as he had 26 digs in two matches (3.25 digs per set). For the season, Sakaida has a team-high 140 digs (2.12 dps) which ranks 11th in the MPSF. Sakaida is on pace to have the most digs by a CSUN player since Ali'i Keohohou had 303 in 2010. John Baker had 144 to lead CSUN last season while Charlie Condron had 177 in 2012 and Kaleo Baxter had a team-high 191 in 2011 ... Hawai'i picked up its 10th conference win against Pacific on Monday putting CSUN four wins back in the race for an MSPF Tournament berth. Four other teams currently have 11 MPSF wins.
MAGORIEN IN THE CSUN RECORD BOOK
Junior Travis Magorien continues up the assists ladder in the CSUN record books in 2014. With a team-high 634 assists this season and 1,771 in his career, Magorien has moved past Jeff Conover (2004-05) into fifth-place on the CSUN rally scoring era (2001-present) assists list while moving into ninth-place on the all-time list. Magorien is well within reach of eighth-place Dan Nash (1,950) and will most likely become the eighth setter in Matador history to reach 2,000 career assists.
