NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
Cal State Northridge sophomore Reindell Cole is headed back to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the 2009 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Cole, who broke his own school record in the long jump at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, will be competing in the event on Saturday, June 27th.
The long jump event, which is being held at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon, will begin at 4:20 p.m. PST.
In the preliminaries of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Cole shattered his own school record with a leap of 8.20m (26-11.25). His previous best and Matador record had been a mark 8.17m (26-9.75), which he set as a freshman in 2008.
In his second year at CSUN, Cole finished second in the MPSF Indoor Championships in the long jump. He earned back-to-back Big West Field Athlete of the Week awards and was part of the conference-winning 4x100m relay team. Additionally, he finished second in the 100m at the Big West Outdoor Championships and helped the Matador Men's and Women's Teams sweep the league titles.
During his freshman season, Cole won the 2008 NCAA Indoor long jump title and was an outdoor All-American in the event as well. He capped off his amazing freshman season with a berth in the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento where he finished 12th with a distance of 7.62m (25-0).
