IRVINE, Calif. - Matador Freshman Carl Horsley was named Big West Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season following his performance at the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational last week.
Horsley, who also won the weekly honor on Mar. 16, finished seventh in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters at the Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine. He ran a lifetime-best 21.11 in the 200 shaving more than .30 off his previous season-best. Horsley's time ranks second on the all-time CSUN freshman list and is the best by a Matador sprinter this season.
Horsley and senior Sherrina Lofton are the only two Northridge track & field athletes to have earned a weekly honor this season. Lofton earned Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors on Apr. 13.
The Matador men's team, the two-time defending Big West champions, open the 2011 conference outdoor championships next weekend (May 13-14) at UC Irvine. The Northridge men do not have a participant at the Multi-Event portion of the meet this weekend (May 6-7).
