LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Senior Bradley Ike won the 100 meters and Derek Cooper won the shot put as the Cal State Northridge men scored 76 points to finish in fourth place at the Cal-Nevada Championships at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
Ike ran 10.51 to edge UCLA's Randall Carroll to win the 100 meters and earn 10 team points. Also on Sunday, Cooper won the shot put with a throw of 58-8.50 (17.69) to win the event by more than a foot.
Northridge advanced five to the 100 meter final on Sunday and scored 19 points with Ike's 10-point win. Ben Santos finished sixth in 10.80, Nic Taylor was seventh in 10.86 and Reindell Cole was eighth in 11.12.
On Saturday night, Northridge got two points from Juan Olea in the 10,000 meters after running 32:29.44.
Also on Sunday, Michael Woodham ran 14.96 to finish eighth in the 110 meter hurdles to add two points to the Matador tally.
The 4x100 team of Santos, Ike, Cole and Taylor ran a season-best 40.61 to take second in the relay and earn eight points while the 4x400 team of Taylor, Ike, Adam Marvin and Joel Darden finished sixth in a season-best 3:17.00.
In addition to Cooper's performance in the shot put, Eric Fremd posted a personal-best 47-3.50 (14.41) in the triple jump to take sixth and earn four points. Alex Butler also scored in the shot put by finishing fourth with a toss of 55-9.75 (17.25) and Cooper completed an 18-point day with a second place finish in the discus (172-6). Butler completed the Matadors' scoring with an eighth place finish in the hammer posting a best of 178-0 (54.26).
