Jose Aviles finished ninth in the hammer and 10th in the shot put at the Big West Championships (May 12)  ... posted a best mark of 165-11 (50.57) in the hammer at the conference championships while best shot put effort was 51-0.25 (15.55) ... career-best shot put of 53-8.25 (16.36) came at the Tiny Lister Classic at Cal State LA (Apr. 7) ... tossed a career-best 166-7 (50.77) to place 11th in the hammer at the Steve Scott Invitational (Apr. 29) ... season-bests during the indoor season were 51-4.50 (15.66) in the shot put and 50-4.50 (15.35) in the weight throw which both came at the Jacksons Invitational in Boise, Idaho (Jan. 29).

2011
Aviles qualified for the Big West Championships in the shot put ... finished 11th with a season-best throw of 46-8.25 (14.23) ... finished eighth with a mark of 46-6.25 (14.18) at the Occidental Invitational ... also had season-bests of 147-2 (44.87) in the hammer and 119-0 (36.27) in the discus ... placed 10th in the weight throw and 17th in the shot put at the MPSF Indoor Championships ... posted an indoor season-best 45-9.75 (13.96) in the weight throw and 45-9.75 (13.96) in the shot put.

LA JOLLA HIGH SCHOOL
Earned letters in both track & field and football at La Jolla High School in La Jolla, Calif. ... was named track & field team MVP in both 2008 and 2009 ... earned All-Western League honors in the shot put in 2008, 2009 and 2010 ... also earned all-league honors as a lineman for the Vikings football team ... graduated in 2010 with a 3.43 grade point average.
