NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Currently a free-agent after spending the last three years as a member of the Puerto Rico Islanders, former two-time Big West Conference Defender of the Year Edwin Miranda will be named to the roster of the El Salvador National Men's Soccer Team when they square off against the United States in a FIFA World Cup Qualifying match.
The match will take place in San Salvador, El Salavador at Estadio Cuscatlán, with kick-off scheduled to take place at 6:00 p.m. PDT. ESPN2 will televise the match live, check your local listings to find out where ESPN2 is located in your catalog of channels.
In only three months after being named to the national squad, Miranda will become the first Cal State Northridge Men's Soccer alumnus named to a World Cup roster when he takes the field Saturday evening.
Originally called up by El Salvador head coach Carlos de los Cobos in December to train with the team in preparation for their inaugural game against Belize in the 2009 UNCAF Nations Cup, Miranda earned his first international cap in that same game when he entered as a substitute in the second half.
Miranda, a midfielder for 'La Azul' currently has three caps on his international resume going into Saturday's match.
