Matt Taylor scored on a set piece in the 21st minute to send the Cardinal to a Sweet 16 match at second-seeded Washington next week.
November 22, 2013 No. 20 Matadors Battle Stanford for Spot in Sweet Sixteen After earning the 15th overall seed, the No. 20 Cal State Northridge Matadors are in the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season and sixth overall. By being seeded, CSUN is in the Second Round of the tournament for the first time since 2005. That 2005 team advanced as far as the Sweet Sixteen, the furthest the Matadors have progressed in the DI postseason. In order to match the mark, Northridge will need to defeat a tough Stanford Cardinal squad that is coming off of a dramatic win in the First Round.

August 30, 2013 Second-Half Surge Sends Matadors Past Albany Although the first 45 minutes did not result in a goal, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (1-0) scored three times in the second half to surge past the University at Albany Great Danes (0-1) by a final score of 3-0 on Friday night at Matador Soccer Field. August 28, 2013 Matadors Host Albany, Memphis at Ryan Rossi Memorial Tournament This Weekend With the start of the 2013 soccer season fast approaching, the Cal State Northridge Matadors are preparing to host their biennial tournament at Matador Soccer Field. Previously known as the CSUN Labor Day Classic, the event has been renamed the Ryan Rossi Memorial Tournament. Rossi competed for the Matadors from 2002-06 and his 74 career appearances rank 12th all-time in the CSUN record book.

Davila, in his 14th year with the Matadors, joins former CSUN head coach Marwan Ass’ad as a regional coach of the year and is the only Northridge coach to win the honor at the Division I level.

November 14, 2012 No. 25 Northridge Hosts San Diego in NCAA Tournament First Round The No. 25 Cal State Northridge Matadors (15-6) return home to open up NCAA Tournament play after winning the 2012 Big West Conference Tournament last week. The Matadors shutout the Cal Poly Mustangs in the semifinal round before winning the final match 1-0 at UC Davis on November 10. CSUN’s first opponent in the NCAA Tournament will be the University of San Diego. The Toreros (11-8) were winners of the West Coast Conference and earned an automatic bid to the postseason. The Matadors and Toreros will play on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Matador Soccer Field. The winner of Thursday’s match will travel to UCLA to face the Bruins on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. The last time the Matadors appeared in the NCAA Tournament was in 2005 when the team defeated UC Santa Barbara in the second round in Northridge before falling 1-0 in overtime at New Mexico. CSUN is 1-3-1 all-time in the national tournament.

On Thursday, Sept. 20, Northridge will travel South to face the University of San Diego Toreros at 7 p.m. Following the match at USD, Northridge will return home for its final non-conference match of the season. September 16, 2012 Matadors Hold Off Temple for 2-1 Victory A late goal for Temple University was not enough to complete a comeback effort as the Cal State Northridge Matadors (4-3-0) outlasted the Owls 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Matador Soccer Field. Northridge saw goals scored by Beto Velasquez and Edwin Rivas before Jared Martinelli scored in the 89th minute to draw close.

September 12, 2012 Matadors Square Off Against Army, Temple in Home Matches This Week After a five-match road trip to open up the regular season, the Cal State Northridge Matadors finally return to the San Fernando Valley for the team’s home opener this week. September 7, 2012 CSUN Falls to UNLV 3-1 in Final Match of Road Trip Two timely second-half goals spelled the difference in the match as the Cal State Northridge Matadors (2-3-0) were defeated 3-1 by the UNLV Rebels (1-3-1) on Friday afternoon at Johann Memorial Field. September 5, 2012 Cal State Northridge Travels to UNLV in Lone Competition This Week After the first two weeks of the season, the Cal State Northridge men’s soccer team has still not played a competitive match in the San Fernando Valley. Northridge opened the campaign with a pair of matches at the Wilson Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif. before traveling to the East Coast for contests at Georgetown and Loyola University Maryland. This week, the Matadors travel to Las Vegas to take on the Rebels of UNLV at Johann Field for the first time since 2007. August 31, 2012 CSUN Suffers 1-0 Defeat at No. 21 Georgetown On a hot and humid day in our nation's capital the Cal State Northridge Matadors (2-1) were unable to upset the No. 21 Georgetown Hoyas (3-0), falling 1-0 at North Kehoe Field on Friday afternoon. Brandon Allen scored the lone goal of the match in the 26th minute to propel the Hoyas to victory.
August 28, 2012 Matadors Head East for Clashes with No. 21 Georgetown, Loyola University Maryland After going 2-0 last week to win the 2012 Wilson Titan Classic, the Cal State Northridge Matadors will travel to the East Coast for matches against No. 21 Georgetown and Loyola University Maryland. November 16, 2011 2011 Men's Soccer Year in Review Another season has come and gone for the Matadors men's soccer team. After a 2010 season that ended with a 3-14-2 record, Northridge was able to turn things around this season as it went 8-8-3 and finished fifth in the Big West Conference at 4-4-2. The Matadors fell a point shy of reaching the postseason in 2011, but had a much-improved offensive attack and defensive scheme. A total of seven players were named to All-Conference teams, tied for the second most in the Big West.

The victory was the first in history for the Matadors at UCLA as they moved to 2-13-3 against the Bruins all-time. October 19, 2011 Matadors Lose to UC Riverside 2-1 After Late Scoring Flurry Despite scoring a late goal to take the lead, the Cal State Northridge Matadors (6-7-1, 3-3-0 Big West) fell to the UC Riverside Highlanders (7-5-2, 2-3-1 Big West) 2-1 on Wednesday night at UCR Soccer Stadium in Riverside. Thomas Ramos scored for Northridge in the 86th minute but goals for the Highlanders in the 88th and 90th minutes won the match for UC Riverside.

September 13, 2011 Matadors Continue Road Trip with Match At Roadrunners The Cal State Northridge Matadors head north to take on the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. After the match with the Roadrunners, Northridge will return home to host a special alumni match on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 7:00 p.m. The match in Bakersfield will feature a video broadcast available by clicking on the “Video” link in the men’s soccer schedule at GoMatadors.com. September 6, 2011 Matadors Head to New Mexico for Invitational This Week The Cal State Northridge Matadors travel to Albuquerque, N.M. this week to participate in the TLC Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Lobo Invitational on the campus of the University of New Mexico. The Matadors open the week on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. MT (4:00 p.m. PT) with a match against the Missouri State Bears. Two days later, Northridge will take on the host Lobos at 1:00 p.m. MT.
