NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
Yet another Cal State Northridge soccer player earned postseason recognition this season, as senior defender Yuval Barak was named to the Scholar All-West Region Team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the NSCAA recently announced. Barak, who joined teammate Joe Franco on the Scholar All-West Team, finished his career with a 3.77 GPA as a Kinesiology major to earn the honor.
Barak served as a team captain for the Matadors over his final two seasons, appearing and starting in almost every match at the left back position. He recorded seven assists in his time at Northridge, including a career-high five in 2012 as the Matadors won the Big West Conference South Division and the Big West Tournament.
Barak was a mainstay in the Northridge defense this season as the Matadors tallied 10 shutouts in 15 victories. The Matador defense allowed just 20 goals in 22 games and ranked 30th in NCAA Division I with a combined 0.85 goals against average.
With 15 wins, the Matadors compiled their highest win total since 2005 and became just the third team to win the Big West Tournament championship.
