NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
After scoring a pair of game-winning goals and being named the Big West Conference Tournament's Most Valuable Player, sophomore forward Sagi Lev-Ari was named to multiple National Teams of the Week. Lev-Ari, who helped the Matadors win their first ever Big West Tournament, won the recognition from College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com, the outlets announced Monday. On Wednesday, he was named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week.
Lev-Ari was instrumental in leading Northridge offensively to its first NCAA Tournament since 2005. Against Cal Poly on November 7, Lev-Ari scored in the 60th minute to put the Matadors ahead in a match they would go on to win 2-0.
On Saturday at UC Davis, Lev-Ari's blast from the top of the box in the 16th minute was the game's only goal and gave CSUN a win in its first Big West Tournament Final.
Lev-Ari was named to the All-Big West Conference Second Team at the end of the regular season after leading the league with 12 goals and 24 points. He now has 14 goals, a figure that ties for 10th all-time at CSUN for a single season.
The Matadors continue their season this week with the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament in seven years. Northridge will find out its position in the tournament field on Monday afternoon when the selections are announced live on NCAA.com.
