Yuval Barak Earns Big West Player of the Week Honors

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -

After recording two assists in Cal State Northridge's 2-1 double-overtime win against UC Riverside on Saturday night, defender Yuval Barak was named the Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Barak is the second consecutive Matador to win the award and was also named the Madness Big West Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

The senior from Tel Aviv, Israel played a role in both of Northridge's goals against the Highlanders as the Matadors won an overtime match at home for the first time since the 2009 season. In the 48th minute of play Barak played a short touch from a free kick back to Chris Smith, who then curled a shot around a wall of defenders and into the bottom right corner of the net from 20 yards away.

In the 104th minute Barak got the offense started on another set piece, this time from a corner kick. He pass the ball to Carlos Benavides in the box, who then found Rene Anguiano running toward the top of the area. Anguiano's one-touch shot went into the top left corner of the net for the golden goal.

The assists for Barak were his fourth and fifth of the season and bring his career total to seven.
