Nick Delio in the Hunt After Opening Round of NCAA Southwest Regional

SANTEE, Calif. - Junior Nick Delio fired an opening round 71 and is tied for fourth, just three shots off the lead after one round of the NCAA Southwest Regional at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif.

Delio had five birdies and eagled the ninth hole on his was to a one under-par 71. It was the par three's where Delio struggled as he finished at five over-par on the par three holes.

"It was an up-and-down round for Nick today," said head coach Jim Bracken. "He had 13 putts on the front nine which included a four-putt. But he kept his composure after he four-putted he came back with birdie."

Delio is currently tied with Paul Apyan of Southern Mississippi and Robin Wingardh of Tennessee at one under 71. Eddie Olson of UNLV holds the individual lead after a first round 68, Timothy Madigan of New Mexico State is second at three under-par 69 and Michael Weaver of California is third at two under 70.

The low individual player not on one of the advancing five teams will move on to the NCAA Championships.

Delio will tee off the second round at 10:20 a.m. off the No. 10 tee.
