Nick Delio has been selected as an individual for the Division I Men's Golf NCAA Regional for the second consecutive season. The junior from Valencia, Calif., will play in the San Diego Regional at Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif. on May 20-22.
The Regional opens with a practice round on Wednesday, May 19. Delio is scheduled to tee-off at 9 a.m. off the 10th tee for the practice round. He is slated to open the first round Thursday at 9:50 a.m. off the first tee.
Delio is one of 10 individuals selected to the field and will compete with players from Oral Roberts University and other individuals. Big West champion UC Irvine is also in the field.
He competed in his first NCAA Regional as a sophomore in 2009, finishing in a tie for 43rd-place. Delio posted rounds of 76-68-74 for a three-round (+2) 218 at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif. After a second round 68 moved him up from 60th place to 27th, Delio carded a final round 74 on Saturday to slip to 43rd.
Despite finishing his freshman season with an impressive 71.9 stroke average, Delio was not among the individuals selected for the 2008 NCAA Regionals. This season, he has competed in all 33 rounds for the Matadors posting a 71.5 stroke average. Delio has five top-10 finishes and five top-20 finishes this season and placed 22nd at the Big West Championship last week in Mission Viejo.
