SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Cal State Northridge posted a final round 291 but the Matadors slipped from second to third at CSUN's Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch G.C. Nick Delio finished second, Jeff Freund was fourth and Shane Blanchard tied for fifth to lead Northridge.

Pacific won the team championship with a tournament record score of (-21) 843. The Tigers posted team rounds of 279-281-283 to best Saint Mary's previous team record 845 set in 2004. UC Riverside's blistering final round (-13) 275 vaulted the Highlanders into second place ahead of the host Matadors. UC Santa Barbara (865) and Oral Roberts (867) rounded out the top-five in the 17-team field.

The Matadors' Nick Delio, who was five shots off the pace after two rounds on Monday, fired a three under-par 69 in the final round to close the gap to just one shot. Pacific's Alex Johnson, the day one leader at 10 under-par 134, held on to win individual medalist honors with a final round (+1) 73. Northridge's Jeff Freund, who was tied with Delio after two rounds, wound up fourth after a final round (-2) 70 left him at (-7) 209 for the tournament.

Blanchard, playing for the Northridge Black team, posted his best career finish as he sizzled with a final round 68 to move up to fifth place at (-6) 210. Blanchard posted identical rounds of (-1) 71 on Monday.

Also for the Matadors' Red team, Jason Rosenkranz finished tied for 32nd at (+4) 220 after a final round 76. Rosenkranz posted one of the Matadors' four sub-par rounds with a second round 69 on Monday. Casey Piper tied for 61st at (+11) 227 after rounds of 76-75-76 and Matt Siporin tied for 80th at (+17) 233 after rounds of 75-77-81.

For the Northridge Black squad which was paced by Blanchard's 210, Davis Kirkland tied for 37th at (+7) 223 after rounds of 75-74-74, Michael Bassler tied for 58th at (+10) 226 after rounds of 79-75-72, Chris Russo tied for 72nd at (+15) 231 after rounds of 79-80-72 and Sebastien Domingo tied for 80th at (+17) 233 after rounds of 76-79-78. As a team, the Matador Black finished 11th at (+22) 886 with rounds of 301-299-286.

Cal State Northridge will be back in action next week as the Matadors head to Stockton to take part in the Pacific Invitational.
