SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Cal State Northridge carded team rounds of 284 and 288 and is in second place heading into the final round of its own Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch GC. The Matadors have Nick Delio and Jeff Freund tied for second after two rounds.
Northridge, which sits at (-4) 572 after two rounds, trails team-leading Pacific (560) by 12 strokes heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. UC Santa Barbara is also in the hunt as the Gauchos posted team score of (-2) 574. UC Riverside and Oral Roberts are both at even-par 576 and tied for fourth in the 17-team field.
"I'm happy with our play today, especially after our last tournament," said Matadors Head Coach Jim Bracken. "We're in a position where we still have a chance but we'll have to turn in a huge team effort to catch Pacific tomorrow."
Individually, junior Nick Delio and senior Jeff Freund are both tied for second at five under-par 139. The duo trail Pacific's Alex Johnson (-10) 134 by five shots with 18 holes to play. Both Delio and Freund opened with blistering rounds of 67 on Monday and finished the afternoon with rounds of even-par 72.
"Nick and Jeff played solid golf today and both have a chance to win the tournament," added Bracken.
Junior Jason Rosenkranz is also in the top-20 after two rounds as he bounced back from an opening round 75 to card a second round 69. Rosenkranz is currently tied for 16th at even-par 144. Senior Casey Piper is tied for 46th at (+7) 151 after rounds of 76-75 and Matt Siporin rounded out the Northridge Red team scoring as he sits tied for 54th at (+8) 152 after rounds of 75-77.
For the Northridge Black team, Shane Blanchard is tied for eighth at (-2) 142 after back-to-back rounds of 71, Davis Kirkland is tied for 42nd at (+5) 149 after rounds of 75-74, Michael Bassler is tied for 61st at (+10) 154 after rounds of 79-75, Sebastien Domingo is tied for 68th at (+11) 155 after rounds of 76-79 and Chris Russo is tied for 88th at (+15) 159 after posting rounds of 79-80.
The final round is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday moring off holes one and 10.
