Nick Delio Wins Bill Cullum Invitational, Matadors Finish Third as a Team

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Nick Delio made his final Bill Cullum Invitational a memorable one as the senior fired a final round 67 to claim individual medalist honors while the Cal State Northridge men's golf team finished third after a final round 295. UC Riverside overcame a three-shot deficit to win by two strokes in the team race at Wood Ranch G.C.

Delio was tied for second two shots off the pace after two rounds (72-69) on Monday but blistered the Wood Ranch course with a 67 on Tuesday. The senior from Valencia, Calif., who was second in 2009, won the fourth tournament in his Northridge career with a three round eight-under-par 208.

As a team, the Matadors put themselves in contention with rounds of 296-298 on Monday which left them in fourth place, four shots behind Portland. Behind Delio, Northridge (880) overcame Portland (881) on Tuesday but finished seven shots behind second place San Jose State (873) and nine behind UC Riverside (871). CSU Bakersfield (883) wound up fifth in the 15-team field.

Freshman Ryan Green, playing in his first tournament as a Matador and competing as an individual, finished tied for eighth after a final round one-under-par 71. Green had one of Northridge's low rounds of the tournament with a second round 70.

Fellow freshman Jake Katz also played well in his first home tournament as he finished tied for 20th at (+4) 220. Katz sandwiched a pair of 74's around a second round 72. Sophomore Chris Russo finished tied for 36th at (+9) 225 after rounds of 74-74-77, Davis Kirkland tied for 41st at (+11) 227 after rounds of 76-74-77 and Satch Herrmann rounded out the team scoring for CSUN with a 67th place finish. Herrmann posted rounds of 82-76-77 to finish at (+19) 235.

Also competing individually for the Matadors, Arthur Chung finished tied for 41st with Kirkland at (+11) 227 after rounds of 75-76-76, Sebastien Domingo finished tied for 58th at (+15) 231 after rounds of 80-73-78 and Matt Siporin tied for 75th at (+22) 238 following rounds of 77-78-83.

Delio held off CSU Bakersfield's Chase Goodvin and UC Riverside's Kevin Fitzgerald who both tied for second at four-under-par 212. David Smith of South Dakota State and Jeff Evans of Southern Utah tied for fourth at three-under-par 213.
