Matadors Take Third at UC Irvine Anteater Invitational

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - Cal State Northridge carded a final round 302 on Tuesday to finish in third place at the Anteater Invitational at El Niguel Country Club. Sophomore Nick Delio finished fourth to lead the Matadors while Erik Jarvey and Jason Rosenkranz also finished in the top-10.

UC Irvine (289-296-290) finished with a 54-hole total of 875 to win its own tournament. UTEP (292-299-302) was second at 893 edging Northridge (295-299-302--896) by three shots. Sacramento State (898) was fourth and Loyola Marymount (906) and Cal Poly (906) tied for fifth in the 10-team field.

Delio was in third place at even-par 144 after Monday's rounds of 73-71 but Tuesday's three over-par 75 left him three over for the tournament at 219. The sophomore finished seven shots behind Cal Poly's Geoff Gonzalez who claimed medalist honors at four under-par 212.

Jarvey, who was tied for 16th after two rounds, carded a final round two over-par 74 to finish tied for 10th at eight over-par 224. Jason Rosenkranz, who was seventh after two rounds, posted a final round four over-par 76 to also tie for 10th at eight over-par 224. Clint Oleson posted his second consecutive round of 77 to finish tied for 27th at (+13) 229 and Jeff Freund tied for 47th at (+25) 241 after struggling to a final round 84.

The Matadors also sent three individuals to Irvine. Arthur Chung finished 52nd at (+31) 247 after rounds of 84-83-80, Shane Blanchard was 53rd at (+34) 250 after rounds of 85-81-84 and Sebastian Domingo finished 54th at (+35) 251 after rounds 81-83-87.
