Final Round Moves Northridge Up to Ninth at USC Callaway Invitational

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. - A final round 304 moved the Cal State Northridge men's golf up one spot to a ninth-place finish at the USD Callaway Invitational at The Farms G.C. Junior Nick Delio posted his third top-20 finish of the season by finishing tied for 17th.
After team rounds of 314-298 on Monday, the Matadors closed with a 304 on Tuesday to post a three-round score of 304. Host San Diego (862) overcame SMU (865) to claim the team title by three shots while Fresno State (875) was third and UC Irvine (878) was fourth.
"It was a tough golf course," said Matador head coach Jim Bracken. "We didn't play our best golf this tournament but we've got a few weeks before our next tournament. We'll be ready for the Braveheart Classic on March 1st."
For the sixth time in seven tournaments in 2009-10, Delio finished as Northridge's top player. Delio closed with a 74 on Tuesday after rounds of 74-73 on Monday to finish at (+5) 221. Delio's score of 221 is his high round of the season by two shots.
Chris Russo cracked the top-50 with a final round 74 which left him tied for 43rd at (+15) 231. Russo was tied for 55th after two rounds (80-77) but moved up with his two over-par 74 on Tuesday.
Jeff Freund, who was tied for 39th after two rounds, struggled to a final round 80 and dropped into a tie for 51st at (+17) 233. Freund posted scores of 79-74 on Monday. Jason Rosenkranz posted a round in the 70's on Tuesday with a final round 76 which left him 60th at (+21) 237 and Davis Kirkland finished 63rd at (+23) 239 after rounds of 85-74-80.
The Matadors will return to the course on Mar. 1 as they compete at the Braveheart Classic at Oak Valley G.C. in Beaumont.
