Final Round 296 Leaves CSUN Seventh at Pat Hicks Invite

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Cal State Northridge played its second tournament of the spring portion of the 2013-14 season and the Matadors posted a final round 296 to move up one spot from eighth to seventh Tuesday at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational.

After a solid fourth-place finish at the Anteater Invitational two weeks ago, the Matadors struggled at Sunbrook GC with rounds of 303 and 296. Seattle won the team championship at 573 while CSUN finished 15 shots out of the top five.

Michael O'Connor, who's score did not count towards the Matador team score because he was one of three Matadors playing as individuals, had the best finish of his young CSUN career. The junior finished tied for eighth at four-under 141 after posting scores of 68-73. His first round 68 matched the Matadors' low round of the season and is O'Connor's first top-10 finish.

Sam Engel was the second CSUN golfer under par but was also competing individually. In his first tournament of the season, Engel finished tied for 10th at one-under 143 following rounds of 75-68. Along with O'Connor, Engel posted CSUN's second 68 this season.

Kyler Sauer narrowly missed being the third player with a 68 but he settled for a final round 69 which left him tied for 13th at even-par 144. Sauer, who now has two top-20 finishes in addition to two top-10 finishes this season, wound up with rounds of 75-69.

Oscar Sachs was also a scorer for the Matadors as he finished tied for 26th at five-over 149 after posting rounds of 73-76. Dodge Ward was two strokes behind Sachs as he finished at seven-over 151 following rounds of 76-75.

Martin Dymon was CSUN's final individual and he finished tied for 37th at eight-over 152. Dymon's final round 74 was a season-low and along with a first round 78 he had his low 36 hole score of the season. Aden Louez (79-76--155) and Ryan Green (82-82--164) rounded out the Matador scoring in 49th and 59th respectively.

CSUN has a two-week break before teeing it up again Feb. 24-25 at Pepperdine's Jones Sports Invitational at Saticoy C.C.
