Matadors Card Opening Round 303 and Sit Eighth at Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Despite Michael O'Connor's opening round 69, the Cal State Northridge men's golf team was not able to dent the leaderboard on day one of the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club. 

O'Connor, competing as an individual, fired the Matadors low round of the season with a first round four under-par 68. The junior is tied for third with three other players, one shot off the lead.

Oscar Sachs is also in the top-20 as he carded an opening round one-over 73 while Kyler Sauer and Dodge Ward are among the top-30. Sauer is tied for 24th at three-over 75 while Ward is tied for 29th after a round of four-over 76. Another CSUN individual, Sam Engel is also tied for 24th at three-over 75.

Martin Dymon, CSUN's third individual, is tied for 44th at six-over 78, Aden Louez is tied for 47th at seven-over 79 and Ryan Green is tied for 57th at 10-over 82.

The Matadors trail team-leading Utah Valley by 19 strokes with 18 holes to play on Tuesday.
