Solid Two Rounds of Play for CSUN at Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. - Despite posting a season-best two round total of 579, the Cal State Northridge men's golf team is in 12th-place heading into Wednesday's final round of the Stockton Convention & Visitors Bureau Pacific Invitational at Brookside C.C.

The Matadors carded a round of 293 on Monday and improved by seven shots Tuesday with a second round 286 but are well back as numerous teams are blistering the Brookside Country Club course. CSUN's previous best for 36 holes this season was 592 at Cal Poly's Firestone Grill Invitational in early October.

Kansas State is 32 under-par at 544 after two rounds while BYU is second at 27 under-par 549. All but two teams in the 12-team field is under par heading into the final round.

Individually, Pacific's Alex Edfort (-13, 131) holds a two-shot lead over two players at 11 under 133. Leading the Matadors is junior Kyler Sauer who is tied for 13th at six under 138. Sauer followed up a first round 68 with a two under-par 70 on Tuesday.

Senior Matt Siporin also played well on Tuesday following up a first round 73 with a second round three under-par 69. Siporin is currently tied for 34th-place at (-2) 142.

The rest of the Matador squad is near the bottom of the leaderboard heading into the final round as Shane Blanchard is tied for 53rd at (+5) 149, Oscar Sachs is tied for 56th at (+6) 150 and Ryan Green is 60th at (+18) 162.

The third and final round is scheduled for Wednesday morning, fog permitting.
