Final Round 303 Keeps Matadors in 11th Place at Wildcat Invitational

LAYTON, Utah - Junior Chris Russo fired a final round even-par 72 to finish in the top-10 but the Cal State Northridge men's golf team carded a final 303 to finish in 11th-place at the Wildcat Invitational at Valley View G.C.

Russo, who finished in the top-10 for the second time in three fall tournaments, wound up tied for ninth at one over-par 217. Russo came into Tuesday's final round tied for seventh before an even-par 72 dropped him two spots. In addition to his season-opening win at the St. Mary's Invitational, the junior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., also has a 20th-place finish at Cal Poly's Firestone Grill Invitational.

As was the case following two rounds on Monday, the Matadors failed to post another score among the top-30. Senior Jason Rosenkranz carded a final round five over-par 77 to finish tied for 32nd at (+11) 227.

After two tough rounds on Monday (80-78), freshman Steven Molumby posted his best round of the tournament on Tuesday finishing at three over-par 75. Molumby moved up from 62nd-place into tie for 53rd at (+17) 233.

Ryan Green and Richard Kim rounded out the Matador scoring as the pair tied for 56th at (+19) 235. Green posted rounds of 83-73-89 while Kim finished with scores of 82-74-79. Sebastien Domingo played as an individual and finished tied for 58th at (+20) 236 after rounds of 84-78-74.

Sacramento State, which led after two rounds, finished in a tie for first-place with Arkansas-Little Rock which carded a team round of 280 to make up a 15-shot deficit on the Hornets. Individually, Cameron Rappleye of Sacramento State won medalist honors with a three-round score of four under-par 212.

Cal State Northridge concludes the fall portion of the 2011-12 schedule as the Matadors host their annual Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17-18.
